Adoptable Horses and Burros
It's estimated that nearly 50,000 wild mustangs and burros that have been rounded up by the BLM are now in government holding facilities. Most all of them are available for adoption. Many of the captured mustangs are green and have not been saddled or ridden. However, there are some facilities that have a horse training program, which may appeal to the less experienced horse person.
The BLM's National Wild Horse & Burro Adoption Schedule is tentative. However, the website is updated frequently with current information. You can call the BLM's national toll free number, 866-4MUSTANGS, (866-468-7826 ) to ensure the adoption date and location site is accurate. For the BLM's Eastern States Office, call 800-370-3936 for details on internet adoptions or visit the Internet Adoption web page.
